Karin Hsiao was the business columnist for Woodinville Patch. Way back when (before becoming a mom), she worked as a writer and editor for several publications, including the UC Davis California Aggie, the California Journal and the Los Angeles Times Syndicate.

In the early 1990s she decided to honor her life-long love of books and reading, and went back to school to earn a Masters of Library Science from UCLA. That led to librarian jobs at the Milken Institute for Job & Capital Formation, Pepperdine University, the Inglewood (CA) Public Library and the Westchester Neighborhood School library. In recent years, she has worked as a volunteer at the Hollywood Hill Elementary and Leota Junior High school libraries, and has edited the Leota PTSA newsletter.

She and her husband Terence, and daughter Melina, moved to Woodinville in the summer of 2004. While they all miss the sunshine and beaches of Southern California, they enjoy the ease of living and natural beauty of this part of the Pacific Northwest. When she’s not watching Melina play volleyball or out walking the family’s little white dog Cali, Karin can be found in the kitchen cooking up as-local-as-possible ingredients into something she hopes her family will enjoy, organizing things around the house, or relaxing with her nose in a book. She, Terence and Melina all love to travel, and are usually either sorting photos from the last trip or making plans for the next one (or both).

Karin enjoyed writing for Woodinville Patch; she was happy work as a journalist again, while at the same time learning more about the community in which she and her family live.
