Reading Marathon Begins Today at Edmonds Bookshop

It's tied into today's Read Across America day.

The Rock 'n' Read Marathon at the begins today.

The event is tied into Read Across America day, which is today, and the National Education Association's Read Across America Month, which helps promote the love of reading and celebrates Dr. Seuss, the pen name of the late Theodor Geisel.

Today through Sunday, students from Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale high schools will be reading at the store at 30-minute intervals in the store's window. (Meadowdale students will read tonight; Edmonds-Woodway students will read on Saturday) More than 170 participated in 2011.

Many of them will be seated in the store's two well-worn rocking chairs during the 55-hour event.

Students aren't the only ones who will be reading at the event . Teachers, administrators, alumni, elementary-school kids and community members will also be sharing their love of reading.

This event benefits the Edmonds Food Bank.

Both Warrior and Maverick libraries are now accepting donations of gently used or new children’s books for the food bank. Monetary donations, to buy books for the food bank, can be made at the Edmonds Bookshop.

Rock 'n' Read is May 2-4 at the Edmonds Bookshop, 111 Fifth Ave. S. It begins May 2 at 11 a.m. and continues through 5 p.m. on March 4. For more information, go to the Edmonds Bookshop Web site or call 425-775-2789.
