Mary Stuart Van Meter Dies: A Founder of the Edmonds Summer Market

Mrs. Van Meter was named Edmonds' Citizen of the Year in 2012.

Mary Stuart Van Meter, who helped formed the Edmonds Historical Museum's Summer Market, died on July 6, 2012, at the age of 70.

Mrs. Van Meter, born Aug. 20, 1941, in Oklahoma City, was active in the museum and was known by many as the "mother of the market."

This year, in April, Mrs. Van Meter was named Edmonds' Citizen of the Year in recognition of her many civic activities and accomplishments.

As part of her recognition, Mrs. Van Meter, just before she died, waved to crowds from a car during the July 4 An Edmonds Kind of 4th parade.

A memorial service for Mrs. Van Meter will be held July 28, 2012, at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St., Edmonds.
