Edmonds Youth Group Accepting Care Packages for Military on Saturday

The drive is sponsored by the Global Peace Youth Corps.

On Saturday, will open its doors from
noon to 4 p.m. to honor newly deployed military members at its care package and donation drive event.

The goal is to create 150 care packages with hygiene, snack and gift items.

Nathan Sutton, outreach coordinator for the Everett Veterans Center, will speak about the benefits of care packages to kick off the event, which will be held at the Global Peace Youth Corps. office, 21010 76th Ave W.

The youth join millions of other young people around the world who are creating community change as part of Global Youth Service Day, the world’s largest and longest-running service event.

One of Global Peace Youth Corps goals is to establish programs and projects dedicated to connecting local youth to military veterans. The intent, the organization says, is to clear up any misconceptions about veterans and lend their skills to pass on good leadership skills to a younger generation.

Now in its 24th year, Global Youth Service Day (April 20-22) is celebrated in more than 100 countries and recognizes the positive impact that young people have on their communities 365 days a year.
