Edmonds Reading Marathon Crosses Finish Line

The Global Peace Youth Corp collected more than 400 used children's books during the three-day event.

More than 100 readers volunteered their time during a 55-hour marathon Friday through Sunday at the .

The second Rock 'n' Read Marathon benefitted the Edmonds Food Bank. Of particular note was the efforts of the Global Peace Youth Corps, who collected more than 400 used children's books.

The event was tied into Friday’s Read Across America day and the National Education Association's Read Across America Month, which helps promote the love of reading and celebrates Dr. Seuss, the pen name of the late Theodor Geisel.

Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale high school students participated, as did teachers, administrators, alumni, elementary-school kids and community members.
