Hutt Park Cleanup Is Saturday in Edmonds

Ready for some more spring cleaning?

Friends of Hutt Park in Edmonds will have its annual park cleanup on Saturday from 9:30 am to noon. Bring rakes, clippers, gloves and, if possible, a wheel barrel.

Small Hutt Park, which has several trails, is just west of 92nd Avenue W. and 187th Street SW.

The group consists of local neighbors who adopted Hutt Park—which is more of an example of how Edmonds used to be than a traditional park with amenities—through the City of Edmonds' Adopt a Park Program.

Diane Buckshnis and Jack Bevan started the park cleanup gatherings about eight years ago.

"Two years ago, I put the Adopt a Park Program in motion to spur others to get involved in the community as well as help out the City," said Buckshnis, a member of the Edmonds City Council. "One needs only complete a volunteer form found on the Web site and then dedicate a space for where the park crews will pick up the debris from the park cleanup."

Hutt Park has more than 40 species of trees and one of the oldest Douglas Firs in the area.

"We generally drag out the limbs that have fallen over the winter for park crews to pick up and then bag the ivy cut from the bottom of trees," said Buckshnis. "We clear the pathway for all to enjoy."
