Update: Despite Ban, There Were Plenty of Dogs at the Edmonds Summer Market

Updated at 4:20 p.m. Although the pet ban was in effect, there were still plenty of dogs at the Edmonds Summer Market on Saturday. See attached photos from Patch reader Larry Vogel.

Beginning today, dogs and other pets are no longer allowed at the Edmonds Summer Market.

"The crowds are getting larger and the space is too confined," .

Erikson is director of the Edmonds/South Snohomish County Historical Society, sponsor of the summer market. "We know that some pet owners will be disappointed, but this will make the Edmonds summer market a safer and more enjoyable place for all."

"We're really just hoping that people won't bring their dogs," said Jerry Freeland, an Edmonds Historical Museum board member. "We've been gently reminding them since May."

Freeland admitted she's heard her share of both positive and negative comments. "But we just felt we needed to do this because of the crowds we get. Most of the dogs are so well behaved, but some of them aren't. And there's this worry about small children and babies in strollers, elderly people and long leashes. It just became too much of a risk for us."

Freeland says volunteers will be on hand to ask people with dogs to take them away.

The Edmonds Summer Market runs Saturdays through Oct. 6 except Aug. 11, when the annual A Taste of Edmonds is on. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
