Heat Wave to Hit Edmonds This Week

Expect temperatures in the 90s on Thursday and Friday.

An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids ... stay in an air-conditioned room ... stay out of the sun ... and check up on relatives and neighbors.

All good advice. Of course, many of us do not have air conditioning in our residences, so precautions should be taken.

The National Weather Service calls for a high of 92 on Thursday and 91 on Friday, with overnight lows in the 60s.

Temps should dip back down into the 80s and then 70s as we move through the weekend and into next week, says the weather service's forecast.

The National Weather Service recommends that people limit the amount of time they spend in the sun and drink plenty of fluids during extreme temperatures, and reminds anyone who plans to spend time in or near rivers and lakes to wear a life jacket and practice water safety.

And remember—family pets need help staying cool in hot temps as well.
