According to AAA, Washington state has experienced the sixth-highest average price increase—20 cents per gallon—from Aug. 20, 2011, to Aug. 20, 2012. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.97 in our state at the beginning of the last week, the report stated.

Nationwide, the average price of $3.72 on Aug. 20 was the highest ever for that day in history. AAA expects prices to begin to drop after Labor Day but says record-breaking averages will likely continue into the fall.
