Women's Tennis Team From Harbor Square Finishes Second

Edmonds team advances to final match at the USTA League 6.0 Super Senior National Championships.

A women’s tennis team from Edmonds representing the USTA Pacific Northwest Section finished second at the USTA League 6.0 Super Senior National Championships held at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, AZ.

The Edmonds team lost 2-1 to a team from Tyler, TX, in the championship match. Earlier in the day, the Edmonds team defeated a team from Honolulu 2-1 in the semifinals. They advanced this far by winning their round-robin flight.

The team is led by JR Thompson and features Dorothy Salogga, Karen Gillespie, Francoise O'Donnell, Charlotte Lohman, Marylen Fitzgerald, Trudy Desilets, Michele Karantsavelos, Diane Clark and Mary Frances Fox. They play at the Harbor Square Athletic Club.

The top four teams in order of finish are: Texas Section, Pacific Northwest Section, Middle States Section and Hawaii Section.

This year’s USTA League 6.0 Super Senior National Championship has drawn the top 23 teams from throughout the nation.

USTA League celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2010. Since its inception in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants in its first year, to over 860,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
