Sounders U-23 Team Beats Edmonds' North Sound SeaWolves

Next home game in Edmonds is June 20.

Missing a number of key starters due to college graduations, the North Sound SeaWolves played several reserves and, though they competed well, it wasn’t enough as the Seattle Sounders U-23 team snapped North Sound’s two-game win streak with a 3-0 victory Sunday at Franklin Pierce Stadium in Tacoma.

The SeaWolves fell to 3-4 while the Sounders took over first place in the Premier Development League Northwest Division at 5-1-3.

“It’s unfortunate we didn’t have our full team out there,” SeaWolves coach Alex Silva said. “Our reserve guys stepped in and got a chance to see how the game is played at this level and that was a good opportunity. But it would have been nice to have some of our starters here.”

It didn’t take long for the Sounders to take control as Sean Morris finished a cross from Aodhan Quinn, one-touching past SeaWolves’ keeper Evan Gaul in the third minute. Gaul made his first start of the season in place of starter Claudio Lazar, though Lazar played the second half.

Quinn made it 2-0 in the 21st minute and Sean Okoli completed the scoring in the 40th minute.

The Sounders out-shot the SeaWolves 19-9, though things settled down in the second half. Abdul Aman, who leads the SeaWolves with four goals, hit the post three times in the match but was never able to find the back of the net.

“We made some adjustments in the second half and that helped,” Silva said. “Our guys started to figure out how to play at this level. This will help us in the future.”

The SeaWolves now have a week off before traveling to Sherwood High School in Portland to meet the Portland Timbers U-23 Sunday at 5 p.m.

The next home match is at 7:30 p.m. June 20 against the Washington Crossfire, who have defeated the SeaWolves twice this season. The game will be played at Edmonds Stadium on the campus of .
