SeaWolves Play Today in Edmonds

The Edmonds-based North Sound SeaWolves FC looks to snap its two-game losing streak when it plays host to a familiar foe, meeting the Washington Crossfire at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Edmonds Stadium on the campus of .

The SeaWolves (3-4) have lost two in a row and sit in a tie for sixth place in the Premier Development League Northwest Division standings. Washington is 6-3-1 and tied with Portland for second in the division.

The Crossfire and SeaWolves have already met twice this season, with Washington winning 1-0 on May 23 and 2-1 on June 1.

“Those were two games we felt like we should have won,” SeaWolves coach Alex Silva said. “We gave those games away and we can’t afford to do that. This is a good chance for us to start turning around this season.”

The SeaWolves play their next four matches at home, a stretch that will conclude their home schedule. They finish the season with four matches on the road.

“If we’re going to get back into contention we need to win these home games,” Silva said. “We still have eight games left so there is still time for us to move into strong position, but these home games are must-wins and that starts against the Crossfire.”

Defense has been the biggest issue for North Sound, which has lost its past two games by a combined 7-1 score. The SeaWolves have allowed 15 goals in seven matches, with keeper Claudio Lazar working to keep the team in games with 45 saves.

The SeaWolves will be challenged by a Crossfire team led by Adam Bonifacio, who has four goals, including the game-winner against North Sound in the previous meeting. Seven different players have goals for Washington.

Abdul Aman continues to be the SeaWolves’ top offensive player with four goals, and Brady Ballew has two goals and three assists. They’ll face Washington keeper Andrew Holte, who has four shutouts.

“The Crossfire is a good team but so are we,” Silva said. “We have to pull together in the back, communicate better and be more physical. It comes down to the defense for us. If our defense is good, we can win a lot of games.”
