Edmonds-Woodway Loses; Meadowdale Goes to 2-0

E-W falls to 0-2, while the Mavericks remain undefeated.

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors caught a break as a kickoff return by Monroe on the first play of the game was called back after a penalty.

On Friday against Marysville-Pilchuck at Marysville High School, the Warriors weren't so lucky.

This time, again on the first play of the game, the Warriors kicked off and couldn't do anything as the Tomahawks' Deion Stell took the ball at the 3 and sprinted for a 97-yard touchdown.

This time it counted.

The Warriors would go on to lose 21-13 and find themselves with an 0-2 record. E-W's touchdowns were scored by Chris Herbert on a 1-yard run and Desmond Young, who hauled in a 35-yard TD spiral from Warrior quarterback Lee Anderson.

The good news for the Wesco 4A Warriors is that both of their losses have been nonconference games.

Meanwhile, the Meadowdale Mavericks beat Marysville's other team, Marysville-Getchell, 44-8. The Wesco 3A Mavs are now 2-0.

Meadowdale was lead by Kyle Newsom, who scored on runs of 3 and 5 yards, and Chace Diemond, who scored on runs from 47 and 6 yards.

The Mavs also scored on 10-yard pass from Brian Marty to Nate Mosek; a safety credited to Michael Cummings; and on a 65-yard punt return by Kyler Larsen.

No matter what has happened this season, next week's game for both teams will be something special. The two longtime rivals play each other Friday at Edmonds Stadium.
