School Levy Ballots Mailed This Week; Drop Box Open at Library

Voters in Edmonds School District being asked to approve renewal of replacement technology/capital levy.

Ballots are being mailed this week that affect all who live within the boundaries of the Edmonds School District.

The only item on the ballot is Proposition No. 1, the district's attempt to renew its replacement technology/capital levy approved by voters in 2008.

Ballots must be mailed by Feb. 14. They can also be dropped off at the special election drop box now through 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at the .

"Continuing to provide our students with the instructional and learning tools that are contributing to our overall academic growth and success is essential," said School Board Vice President Gary Noble.

The replacement levy would average $7.85 million per year for the years 2013 through 2016. The rate per $1,000 is projected to be 44 cents, the current rate. On a $200,000 home, that figure represents $88 a year, or $176 for a $400,000 home.

Those who are 61 now or who will be 61 by Dec. 31 of 2012, or retired because of a physical disability, may qualifty for an exemption on the levy.
