School District Superintendent: 'Deeply Appreciative of Continued Support'

Edmonds School District superintendent Nick Brossoit thanks community for voting in favor of a replacement levy, which he says is "clearly passing."

With Proposition No. 1, the Edmonds School District's attempt to renew its replacement technology/capital levy approved by voters in 2008, , district superintendent Nick Brossoit has released the following statement:

With the first run of ballots last night shortly after the Feb. 14 election closed at 8 p.m., the Edmonds School District Replacement Levy for Technology and Capital projects was passing with nearly 62 percent “yes” votes. Additional ballots will be counted and impact the percentage in the next few days; however, with only a simple majority necessary to renew this levy, it is clearly passing.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to each of you who shared information about this important measure with others.

At times, we all commiserate about the awkward way we fund public schools in our state, and as proven by the recent Supreme Court ruling on school funding, our state must make changes in how it funds schools.

Still, the local school levy has a significant part to play in our current system of funding and may still have a role in the future, yet to be defined method of funding. Therefore, and in that light, we are deeply appreciative of the continued support from our community.

The Edmonds School District is a great place for students, staff, and parents in large part as a result of the strong support we receive even from those who do not have school aged children, yet who understand and stand up locally for the value and importance of our schools.

This levy will allow the district to keep making positive progress. We express our sincere thanks to all in our community who are vital to our continued success.
