Patch Whiz Kids of the Week: Savannah Broadlick and Tobias Osterhaug

Edmonds-Woodway seniors have ambitious plans.

Names: Savannah Broadlick and Tobias Osterhaug, students of the month for March

School: Edmonds-Woodway High School

Savannah Broadlick, a senior, is the daughter of Martha Pilcher and Jim Broadlick. She holds a 3.66 grade-point average and has been ASB senator for three years, in addition to ASB senior class secretary. She’s participated in cross-country and track for four years and is also a football manager. “I dedicate a lot of time supporting Edmonds-Woodway sports,” she said.

Savannah is a Younglife student leader, Wyldlife leader, volunteer for United Way, volunteer at marathons, blood drive coordinator for Edmonds-Woodway, and prom chair.

Savannah’s culminating senior project is job shadowing a veterinarian at Westgate Veterinary Hospital. Her current employment is as a nanny.

“I will be attending Washington State University and double majoring in psychology and criminal justice,” she said. “I am also studying abroad in Paris this summer, so I may minor in French.” She hopes to do something in law or psychology, or possibly combining the two.

Tobias Osterhaug, a senior, is the son of Birgit and Einar Osterhaug. “I was the lead in our musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” he said. It’s no secret that his favorite extra-curricular activity is drama. “Through play production I spend at a minimum of four hours a week after school in the theater. We build all our own sets, costume ourselves, get our own props and choose our plays.”

Tobias also enjoys skiing, cooking and playing video games. “I also am a huge history buff, and sometimes I read our history textbook for fun. My favorite thing to learn about is the Cold War.”

Tobias is in the International Baccalaureate program and received a commendation from the National Merit Scholarship program for being in the 98th percentile of students taking the PSAT.

Because Tobias is in the full IB program, his culminating project was replaced by a 4,000-word independent research-based essay on analysis of the spread and effect of Russian actor Constantin Stanislavski's acting method and teachings in the United States.

Tobias plan to pursue a degree in international relations, or a double major in political science and economics at Western Washington University, where he has been accepted in the honors program, or at another university.

“I plan to take the foreign service entrance exam after completing my bachelor's degree, and pursue a career as a diplomat with the State Department. I would someday like to hold a high-ranking position within the State Department, maybe even Secretary of State.”
