Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Marco Bejarano

Name: Marco Bejarano, 14, nominated by College Place Middle School teacher Janice Maxson

School: College Place Middle School

Accomplishments: Marco, an eighth grader, was honored by the Spanish TV station Univision Seattle (KUNS) as an estudiante estrella ("star student") for his accomplishments and achievements. “He’s a great young man,” said Maxson, who noted that Marco is president of the student council, plays with CPM’s wind esemble and is on the football, soccer and wrestling teams.

Marco arrived in Edmonds at age 2 from Mexico with his parents, Marco and Alicia Bejarano. He quickly learned English and became a top student at College Place Elementary. His favorite classes are science and social studies. “I’m ready,” he said when asked if he was looking forward to beginning high school later this year.

Key to Awesomeness: In addition to participating in school activities, Marco is an excellent student who maintains a 3.9 grade-point average. He looks to increase that mark at Edmonds-Woodway High. “I have big dreams,” he said. “I’m thinking about going to Harvard, so I hope to get a 4.0 GPA and some scholarships.”

Marcus’ career goal? He wants to be an architect. No doubt he will.
