Lynnwood Police to Have New Presence in Edmonds School District

The Lynnwood Police Department, in partnership with the Edmonds School District and the private schools located within the City limits of Lynnwood, has recently formed the School-Police Partnership Program.

A designated School Partnership Officer (SPO) will serve as a weekly presence in each school and assist staff and students in an advisory role.  Some of the goals of this program will be to: 

• Establish a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, teachers, and staff. 

• Promote good citizenship, respectful behavior and a respect for the law.

• Serve as a positive role model to promote and enhance the image of police officers and the law enforcement profession; fostering a positive relationship between officers, students, school staff and parents.

Over the years, the Lynnwood Police Department has provided programs such as DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), GREAT (Gang Reduction Education and Training) and the School Resource Officer program (SRO).  Unfortunately, these valuable programs fell victim to the recent economic recession that forced budget constraints on both the School District and the Police Department.  This new program will utilize existing officers who “adopt” all public and private elementary, middle and high schools within the City of Lynnwood.
