Is your little one ready for school? Now is the time to gather the required materials in order to get registered for kindergarten. Kindergarten registration in the Edmonds School District begins Feb. 11, with full-day kindergarten optional on a space-available basis.

Westgate Elementary is holding a registration kick-off event on Feb. 9.

  • Registered birth certificate (issued by the county of your child's birth)
  • Immunization history (students must be in compliance with all immunizations prior to the start of school)
  • Emergency contact information including:
    • Work phone numbers for parents
    • Names and phone numbers of two additional emergency contacts
    • Daycare information, if applicable
    • Name and phone number of child's physician or clinic
  • Parenting plan/court order, if applicable.
  • Proof of guardianship if student is living with an adult other than the parent.

To start kindergarten in the fall, students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2013.

Part Time Kindergarten:

Students in the part time program attend school 5 days a week in either a morning or afternoon session. This is the state funded program. There is no charge to parents.

Full Time Kindergarten:

Full time kindergarten students attend school for a full school day 5 days a week (the same schedule as students in grades 1-6). Tuition is needed to cover the additional costs associated with having kindergarten students in school for a full day.

The district’s ability to offer full time kindergarten depends on adequate funding from parents who can pay full tuition for the school year. In the past, district financial aid, along with parent-paid tuition, has been able to supplement the costs associated with this program. The full time kindergarten programs at Cedar Valley and College Place are free of charge due to state and district support. Please request a Kindergarten Contract from your neighborhood school when registering.

We will collect the names of those interested in full time kindergarten between February 11 and March 8 to be entered into a lottery drawn on March 11. A lottery will not be needed if there are fewer students interested in full time kindergarten on March 8 than we are able to accommodate. The district office will notify parents of the lottery results by March 15.

Tuition for 2013-2014 will be $3,680.

Limited financial aid may be available to qualifying families (those with income at the free/reduced lunch level). To apply for financial aid please request a Financial Aid Application from your neighborhood school and have proof of income available to submit with the application (recent pay stubs or proof of DSHS or state support).

As of Jan. 25, the district said full time kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year is available on a space available basis at your neighborhood school. If your school's program is full, we will place your child on a wait list.
