Football's On: Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale Begin Seasons Today

The Warriors are picked to win their division, while the Mavs are coming off an 11-1 year.

You're past ready for football. It's on.

The Seahawks finished the season undefeated, and look strong going into the season opener Sept. 9 on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. The home opener is Sept. 16 against the Dallas Cowboys.

On the prep level, both Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale high schools begin their seasons today.

The Warriors, with coach John Gradwohl in his 15th year, play Everett High School at 8 p.m. at Edmonds Stadium on the E-W campus. The Warriors are picked by many to top the Wesco 4A South conference after going 6-5 last year.

The team finished 4-0 in conference play and lost 42-7 to Bellarmine Prep in the first round of the 4A state playoffs last year.

The Warriors are led by junior quarterback Davis Giles and senior running back Desmond Young, who ran for 1,417 yards while scoring 20 touchdowns last year.

The Mavericks were undefeated in 2011 in Wesco South 3A (9-0) and lost to Camas 40-0 in the playoffs, finishing 11-1. The Mavs begin their season today at 5 p.m. against Kamiak at Edmonds Stadium.

Meadowdale, with coach Mark Stewart in his 13th year, are led by quarterback Brian Marty and running back Giavani Shepard.

The Warriors and Mavs face off Sept. 14 at Edmonds Stadium.
