E-W Facing Mariner and One of State's Top Running Backs, KeiVarae Russell

Warriors hope to get their first win of the season.

What: Edmonds-Woodway vs. Mariner
Where: Edmonds Stadium
When: 5 p.m.

Breakdown: Edmonds-Woodway has a chance to get its season back on track with its first WesCo 4A South Division game this weekend. Edmonds-Woodway is off to a surprising 0-3 start that has been marked by offensive instability and a tendency to give up big plays.

The Warriors lost 27-7 last week to Meadowdale, a game in which E-W allowed 21 points in the second quarter and could not climb back into the game. The quarterback position continues to be a source of trouble for the Warriors, who have used three different players under center and gotten zero touchdown passes and five interceptions out of them.

Desmond Young has rushed for two touchdowns for E-W, but has gained just 19 yards on 9 carries in the past two games.

Mariner is 2-1 on the season, having won two straight since an opening loss to Arlington. Marauders running back KeiVarae Russell has the big-play potential that could trouble the Warriors. He is one of the best running backs in the state (watch his recruiting video on YouTube) and, despite missing his first game, leads Wesco in rushing with 501 yards on 51 carries. He ran for 284 yards and four touchdowns in his first game, and has six touchdowns overall.
