Brighton School to Host Rachel's Challenge

National anti-bullying program is named after Rachel Scott, the first person to die at Columbine High School in 1999.

Brighton School, a private school in Lynnwood offering instruction from preschool through eighth grade, is inviting the public to a free program on Monday at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about Rachel’s Challenge, which focuses on bullying on violence.

The majority of Brighton School families are from Edmonds and Woodway, according to the school.

The school is offering the program primarily to parents, as Brighton students will have had assemblies earlier in the day. The school recommends that students who attend with their parents be in fifth-grade or above due to content.

Rachel’s Challenge was inspired by Rachel Scott, the first person killed in the shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado in April 1999. Scott’s acts of kindness and compassion, along with contents from her diaries, have become the foundation of one of the most life-changing school programs in the country.

( in the near future. The Hazel Miller Foundation and the Edmonds Public Schools Foundation have both donated funds for the program.)
