'A Country Auction' Benefits Louise Braille School

Benefits from afternoon auction go to school's general fund, which helps pay for tuition costs.

Grab your cowboy hat and do-si-do on down to the Edmonds Senior Center this afternoon for the annual Louise Braille School auction. The theme of this year’s event is “A Country Auction,” and attendees are welcome to don their best Western attire.

The Louise Braille School is a Washington State Board of Education-approved private school for children who are blind or partially sighted. All money raised from the auction will benefit the school.

“All the money goes to support the general fund at the school,” said School Director Carolyn Meyer, adding that one purpose the fund serves is supporting tuition for students who can’t afford the full amount.

The auction will be held this afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be two auctions, a silent event and a live one. The latter will be hosted by Roland Henson, a country auctioneer. Dozens of items up for bidding include a PAWS basket for your favorite pooch, gift certificates to local restaurants, toys, concert and play tickets, gardeners' baskets and more.

Live entertainment from Vern Percival and The Huckabillys will feature three Lousie Braille School students: one singing, one strumming the banjo and one playing the accordion. A popular guest appearance is set for puppies-in-training (and their trainers) from the Guide Dogs for the Blind program.

“We enjoy so much having members of the community come out and have fun at our auctions,” noted Meyer. “We like to bring together people who have common interests for an afternoon of entertainment and fun.”

Admission is $15. Walk-ins are welcome.
