You're Invited: Share Thoughts on County’s Land-Use Plan

Residents interested in helping shape Snohomish County’s comprehensive land-use plan for growth through the year 2035 are invited to attend a public meeting in October. The county will formally adopt the land-use plan in 2015.

As part of the review process for the plan, the county will evaluate three alternatives that look at different options for how to distribute population and employment growth as well as potential land use changes.

Public input is a major part of the 2015 update. Changes to the plan could affect all residents depending on where they live, own property, work, or visit. The county encourages residents to be involved in the project by providing comments on the three alternatives that are undergoing environmental review.

“Snohomish County is growing rapidly and the land-use plan will guide that growth for the next 20 years,” said Snohomish County Executive John Lovick. “I want to hear from you, the people of Snohomish County, on how and where growth should happen.”

The county will kick off the public involvement process with a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Northwest Stream Center, 600 128th Street SE Everett (inside McCollum Park.) For directions, please go to http://streamkeeper.org/aasf/Contact.html. Attendees can learn about plan alternatives, talk with staff, look at maps, and learn about options for getting involved and staying informed.

Community feedback is accepted during the environmental review, planning commission and County Council phases of the project, and will influence what changes to the plan are adopted in 2015. Information about the 2015 Update Project, as well as the draft documents, can be found on the project website athttp://2015update-snoco.org.
