UPDATE: Roadwork on Fifth Ave. Could Continue Into March; 3 File for Damages

When the work is completed, the much-traveled road will get a smooth repair, says the City.

Here's an , which has left the road a bumpy entrance into the city, explained in a news release from the City:

As part of the City of Edmonds’ ongoing watermain replacement project, Fifth Avenue South from Walnut Street to Elm Way will be experiencing increased levels of construction activity.

The activity will require that additional trenching and temporary patching of the roadway be done.

Upon completion of this work, all the temporary patching will be replaced with a permanent repair.

The increased level of activity is planned to start the week of Feb. 6. The construction activity is expected to continue intermittently over the month of February with a possible extension into early March to account for any possible delays due to inclement weather or unforeseen site conditions.

Daily updates of the affected areas in the corridor will be posted on the City of Edmonds Web site and concurrently via Public Works' Twitter feed.

Construction activity will focus on connecting the newly installed water lines into the city’s existing system and replacement of individual water services for a number of businesses and homes along this corridor.

Construction will affect street parking from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. along this corridor and cause some traffic delays. The project is currently scheduled to conclude the week of Feb. 27.

Damage claims

Meanwhile, three claims have been filed due to damage caused to cars on Fifth Avenue South on Jan. 5.

Simon Zirians filed for $1,324 after his car got a flat tire after hitting a pothole at Fifth Avenue South and Pine Street.

Sharon Roma filed for $305 after she had to replace two tires after her car hit a pothole, also at Fifth and Pine.

Laura Lee Oswald filed for $694 after her car suffered two damaged tires while travling south on Fifth Avenue South.
