  • The construction of approximately 250 feet of a missing section of roadway including sidewalks and bike lanes on 228th St. SW from SR 99 to 76th Ave. W.
  • The installation of approximately 16 themed decorative LED lighting poles and pedestrian lanterns in numerous locations along SR 99.
  • The addition of traffic signals with illumination at the intersections of 76th Ave W and 228th St SW and SR 99 and 228th St SW.
  • The implementation of real-time adaptive signal control along SR 99 and SR 524.

Said Mayor Dave Earling: “These substantial city-wide safety improvement grants, including the single largest in the State of Washington, are a direct reflection on the quality of our skilled staff and the City’s effectiveness in seeking state and federal grant funds to improve the quality of life in our community, even with the serious budgetary challenges we face. The end result of these infrastructure improvements is safer streets not only for cars, but for cyclists and pedestrians as well.”

While currently still in the engineering design phase, all of these city-wide transportation safety improvements are expected to be completed in late 2014.

“The majority of this funding package, approximately $4.12 million, is for construction of the new east/west connector across SR 99 at 228th,” said Phil Williams, Public Works and Utilities director. “This will not only enhance safety at this key intersection but it will also give Edmonds residents easy access to the multi-modal transportation center in Mountlake Terrace.”
