Temporary Skagit River Bridge to Open Wednesday

Check out the WSDOT time-lapse video of how the new span came together.

Less than a month after the Interstate 5 bridge collapsed into the Skagit River at Mount Vernon, a temporary replacement span is set to open Wednesday, June 19.

The temporary span will carry 99 percent of I-5 traffic, Transportation Secretary Lynn Peterson told The Associated Press. Oversized and overweight loads will still be detoured.

The new bridge is narrower, and drivers will have to slow down to 40 mph, but now they won’t have to line up for a detour on the main route between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.
