Sheriff John Lovick Sworn in as New Snohomish County Executive

Lovick replaces Aaron Reardon, who resigned last week after a series of political scandals.

There's a new county executive in town.

The Snohomish County Council voted unanimously to appoint Sheriff John Lovick as county executive Monday morning. He was sworn in after the vote.

Lovick, a veteran of the Washington State Patrol and former state representative, replaces outgoing executive Aaron Reardon, who resigned Friday after a series of political scandals.

Undersheriff Tom Davis will be the interim sheriff, as is policy, while the county seeks a permanent replacement for Lovick, according to a news release from the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. The County Charter stipulates that the council has 60 days to select an individual who will serve as Sheriff until election in fall 2014.

“I know and trust the Council to choose a leader for this organization who will continue to serve our county at the highest level, with integrity and pride,” said Lovick. “It has been a tremendous honor to serve as Sheriff.”

King County Executive Dow Constantine congratulated Lovick on the appointment in a news release Monday:

“I had the opportunity to work with John when he was elected to the state House of Representatives and found in him a colleague of principle and character. Snohomish County is in good hands. John’s extensive experience as a State Patrol sergeant, city council member, state legislator, and most recently as Snohomish County Sheriff, prepares him well to serve as an effective county executive from his first day in office.”
