Play Time: New Play Area Opens at Mathay Ballinger Park

The City of Edmonds is excited to announce that Mathay Ballinger has a new play area.

Located at 24100 78th Place West, Mathay Ballinger is one of the City of Edmonds' only parks serving the southwest area of Edmonds.

“The play equipment was almost 20 years old, and definitely needed to be replaced,” said Parks Director Carrie Hite in a news release. “We took the opportunity to re-grade some of the area, expand it, add ADA ramps into the play area, and included an ADA yellow swing, similar to the one recently installed at Haines Wharf and Hickman Parks. Next year we have a placeholder in our Capital Improvement Program to expand the path around the park and connect it to the new Interurban trail spur that runs up to the park.”

This is the first playground replacement project in which the city reached out to the neighborhood and other Parks and Recreation users to ask for input.  Five designs were posted at the Frances Anderson Center and postcards were mailed to neighbors who live around Mathay Ballinger, and asked them to go online and vote for their favorite design.

The most favored design was selected from Sitelines, Inc. who represents GameTime playground equipment.  A majority of the grading was completed by the city's Parks and Facilities crew.

"We would like to thank the community for weighing in and invite people to go enjoy the new playground," Hite said.
