35 Cedar Trees in Woodway Are Replaced After Infection Is Detected

The stand of new trees are just south of the bridge on the west side of the Woodway Park Road.

Those who drive on Woodway Park Road in Woodway are familiar with old stone bridge over the Deer Park Reserve. It’s just south of the bridge where the scenery now looks a little different after workers took out a stand of cedar trees near the Rosary Heights property.

Because of a serious root fungus called Phytophthora lateralis, 35 Port Orford cedar trees have been replaced by 35 new trees between 10 and 14 feet high. A fence is being constructed next to the trees.

According to the Woodway Whisper, the town’s official newsletter, arborists determined that the old cedar trees would certainly have died within five years.

Because of this, and other factors, the trees—in addition to their stumps and roots—were removed according to the town’s tree preservation ordinance.
