Have a Say in Edmonds' Arts Scene: Arts Commission Needs Volunteers

Applicants must have a strong background in visual arts.

The City of Edmonds Arts Commission is seeking applicants to serve a four-year term. The Arts Commission is made up of seven Edmonds residents who serve staggered 4-year terms. By ordinance, four of these positions must be filled by people professionally engaged in the arts.

Applicants should be a resident of Edmonds with a background in the visual arts and a willingness to volunteer time on a working board.

Established in 1975, the commission is charged by city ordinance with promoting the arts as an integral part of the community. This is accomplished by presenting programs that enrich the community; providing information and exhibit space for area artists; providing technical assistance and tourism promotion awards to local arts organizations; and awarding scholarships to Edmonds students pursuing higher education in the performing and literary arts.

Attendance is required at monthly meetings and each commissioner has at least one area of program responsibility. An average time commitment of four to eight hours per month is standard for most commissioners.
