GOP State Rep and Former Edmonds Resident Quietly Gaining Attention

The Herald reports that Elizabeth Scott is gaining attention for voting based on her Tea Party oriented views. She voted against a bill to support the aerospace industry and another to allow a spouse to be charged with rape.

Freshman State Rep. Elizabeth Scott, a conservative who moved from Edmonds to Monroe in 2012, is quietly carving out a niche in the state Legislature -- and getting some attention of the eye-rolling variety from Democratic colleagues.

She voted against a bill allowing a spouse to be charged with rape, and declined to sign a resolution honoring the late former Gov. Booth Gardner. Based on her Tea Party oriented small government views, the 47-year-old former educator also voted against a bill to boost the aerospace industry -- a major employer in Snohomish County.

"I ran on smaller, smarter government,” she told the Herald. “And of course I swore to uphold the state and federal constitutions to protect our liberty. If I perceive that something doesn't fit with those criteria, I am a 'no' vote.”
