Garbage Strike Won't Affect Many in Edmonds

About 120 homes affected in Lake Ballinger area of the city.

Teamsters Local 117's strike against Waste Management won't affect too many people in the city of Edmonds and its unincorporated areas.

According to the City of Edmonds Web site, Waste Management provides service to about 120 home just north of Lake Ballinger.

Three private hauling companies provide curbside garbage collection, recycling and yard waste services within the Edmonds city limits: Sound Disposal provides service in the greater Edmond Bowls, and Allied Waste Services of Lynnwood provides service to almost all of the remainder of the city and in Esperance.

Residents and businesses can also choose to take their own solid waste to transfer facilities operated by Snohomish County.

However, according to the Snohomish County Web site, the Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station in Mountlake Terrace will be closed July 28 through Aug. 17 for repairs to the tipping floor. The recycling area will remain open regular hours. The station will reopen for regular business on Aug. 18.
