Edmonds Half-Marathon to be Dedicated to Councilman Frank Yamamoto
The first-time Edmonds City Councilman has emergency surgery on Wednesday.
The inaugural Edmonds Half Marathon this Sunday is being dedicated to a well-known figure in Edmonds.
According to Reinke Sports Group president Dean Reinke, who is organizing the event:
"Our local coordinator, , an Edmonds City Councilman, had emergency heart-valve surgery today and will not be there with us on Sunday. So we are dedicating the race to him."

Yamamoto was sworn in as a councilmember on Jan. 3 after winning a seat last November. After the election, store on the corner of Fourth and Main.

In other marathon news, Reinke says Sunday's event should have between 275 and 300 runners.
"We have a blind runner running with her guide runner," he said. "We also have two young ladies coming from Yakima to run their first ever half marathon. They are just a few of many tackling the distance for the first time."
Reinke says he's also added a 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk.

Course monitors are needed from 7 a.m. until about noon to stand throughout the course, directing runners and preventing conflicts between runners and vehicles. Volunteers get a T-shirt and free refreshments.
