Edmonds City Clerk to Retire After 20 Years

Edmonds City Clerk Sandy Chase will retire at the end of October 2013 after 20 years.

Sandy Chase, city clerk for the City of Edmonds has announced her retirement, effective Oct. 31, 2013. 

Mayor Dave Earling said in a news release he tried his best to convince her to delay retirement, but accepted her announcement, reluctantly. 

“Sandy Chase is one of the most well respected city clerks in this region, and is a valuable part of our team. She performs her job with excellence, and she will be missed greatly,” Earling said.

Chase was hired by the City of Edmonds in September 1993 as the deputy city clerk. She was promoted in June 1995 to city clerk, completed her Certified Municipal Clerk certification in August 1996, and is a member of the Snohomish County Clerk’s Association. During her tenure with the City, she was recognized as Employee of the Year in 2003. 

“It has been a privilege to be city clerk for so many years,” Chase said. “I have truly loved holding this position and leaving is a very difficult decision. But, I am excited for what the future holds."

She said she and her husband will remain in the community and that she plans to devote more time to family, church and serving the community in a different capacity. 

The city clerk position will be opened on Monday, July 15, with an expedited recruitment and review process. The mayor’s intent is to hire a new City Clerk in time to train alongside Ms. Chase before her departure.
