Economic Alliance Snohomish County Moves Forward

Troy McClelland, CEO and president of the new enterprise, is leading the Alliance toward creating a work plan by this summer.

The new Economic Alliance Snohomish County plans to develop and release a work plan by sometime this summer.

The strategy will address ways to make Snohomish County appealing to businesses, which will include tackling transportation, education, and business issues. Troy McClelland, president and CEO of the Alliance, said aerospace, biotech, and medical service companies will play a key role in the plan.

"These industries continue to show strength in Snohomish County," McClelland said.

Economic Alliance Snohomish County, which agreed upon a name two weeks ago, is just beginning to develop its goals. The Alliance merged three former organizations -- the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, and the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County. The three groups thought a single entity could be more effective and have a larger reach.

Since all three groups have approved consolidation, the Alliance is now working to dissolve the former nonprofits and establish the new organization.

As the Alliance develops its work plan, McClelland plans to consider the draw of communities like Edmonds in encouraging people to live and work in Snohomish County.

"Edmonds adds to the overall quality of life in the region," McClelland said. "A community like Edmonds is quite attractive to many of the industries that are showing growth right now."Β
