Contractor Files $1 Million Claim Over Haines Wharf Project

Precision Earthworks, a Mukilteo company, says it has suffered due to "tortious" conduct by the City of Edmonds.

Precision Earthworks, a Mukilteo-based general contractor, has filed a $1 million claim against the City of Edmonds in regards to what it says is the City's mismanagement of the Haines Wharf Park project.

Mayor Dave Earling and the City Council will acknowedge receipt of the claim at tonight's City Council meeting.

“The filing of this claim by Precision Earthworks has been anticipated by the City,” said Public Works director Phil Williams. “We have been evaluating their claim for some time now. We have no further comment at this time.”

The renovation of Haines Wharf Park at Brown's Bay began in April 2009. The park is now completed, but cost overruns pushed the price tag beyond the original $1.6 million bid.

The cost overruns prompted an investigation into former Edmonds Mayor Gary Haakenson, whose approvals of the overruns were done without City Council approval.
