Boeing Breaks 'Old' Record For Largest Commercial Airplane Order

The 230-airplane order is for $21.7 billion. It is expected to be the largest commercial airplane order ever in Boeing's history, breaking the old record set earlier this week with an $18 million order of 777s.

Jakarta-based Lion Air has signed a commitment for Boeing to order 201 737 MAXs and 29 Next-Generation 737-900 ERs (extended range). The agreement also includes purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes.

With 230 airplanes at a list price of $21.7 billion, this deal will be the largest commercial airplane order ever in Boeing’s history by both dollar volume and total number of airplanes.

The official annoucement of the deal will take place today at the East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia. President Barack Obama is scheduled to to attend the announcement ceremony, according to Boeing officials.
