UPDATE: Baicha Tea Room Will Open on Wednesday

Edmonds' newest business is at the former location of Marilyn Young Beauty on Fifth Avenue South.

Although the opening of Edmonds’ newest business, , has been delayed due to a City of Edmonds Engineering Division order, the owners are expecting to be open for business on Wednesday.

The shop, at 622 Fifth Ave. S. at the former location of Marilyn Young Beauty, is owned by Edmonds residents Ann Lalitkomol and Joe Budharaksa, who are married.

During review of the proposed tenant improvement, the owners were informed that the asphalt area east of the building structure did not appear to meet current city parking codes (ECDC 18.95), said Jennifer Lambert, City of Edmonds engineering technician.

“It was requested that the owners submit a site plan showing either the driveway entrance being removed or that there was adequate space for on-site parking,” said Lambert. “It was later determined that it was not feasible to provide on-site parking spaces. The owners agreed to replace the driveway approach to prevent vehicles from parking on-site. Removing the existing driveway approach and replacing it with standard curb and sidewalk allows for additional on-street parking.”

The driveway entrance now has a couple of flower pots blocking the entrance to discourage parking there.

The interior of the tea room, which includes two floors, is now completed.

The main floor will be the place to get order a cup of tea on the spot or to take home the more than 80 varieties of loose-leaf tea, said Lalitkomol. There will also be sandwiches, soups and salads.

The downstairs are will include a seating area and a meeting room.

Lalitkomol, who is originally from Thailand, and her husband, say they also plan afternoon tea events.

There will be Wi-Fi access throughout the shop.
