3-Hour Parking Limit Coming to 3rd Ave. South Between Dayton and Pine

Condominium owners had complained to the City of Edmonds about ferry commuters parking for extended periods of time.

No more free, all-day parking on Third Avenue South between Dayton and Pine streets in Edmonds.

Due in part to complaints from residents, the Edmonds City Council recently voted to impose a three-hour parking limit on both sides of Third Ave. The signs are tentatively scheduled to be posted by the end of May, said City of Edmonds transportation engineer Bertrand Hauss.

The three-hour limit currently ends at Third and Walnut.

According to City documents, its Parking Committee last November received a letter from condominiums on Third Avenue South complaining that ferry commuters frequently park, for extended periods of time, along Third from Walnut to Pine.

Those parked vehicles are often commercial trucks, creating sight distance and safety issues for vehicles attempting to access Third from driveways and side streets, the City says.

The City conducted a survey finding that 66 percent of property owners in the affected area were in favor of the new designation, which is a three-hour parking limitation between midnight and 6 p.m. of every day except Sunday and public holidays.
