Sofa Fire Causes $45,000 Damage to Edmonds Apartment

A sofa fire caused more than $45,000 damage at a townhouse apartment in Edmonds this afternoon.

Neighbors called 9-1-1 around 1:30 p.m. to report heavy smoke coming from a townhouse at an apartment complex in the 20900 block of 76th Ave. W. No one was inside the apartment at the time of the fire and there were no injuries, said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1, which provides fire and emergency medical services in the City of Edmonds.

Firefighters entered the smoke-filled apartment and quickly extinguished the burning sofa and removed it from the building. Damage was contained to the apartment where the fire started.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The man who lived in the apartment where the fire started will most likely be displaced.
