Service For Park Ranger Is Tuesday

Mount Rainer National Park will reopen to the public on Saturday.

A public memorial service for Mount Rainier National Park ranger Margaret Anderson will be held at 1 p.m. at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, said Park Service spokeswoman Patti Wold.

The park, which has been closed since the Sunday morning shooting, is set to reopen this Saturday, according to The Associated Press.

On Wednesday, police officers gathered in a huddle at the Mountainview Funeral and Memorial Park in Lakewood in Pierce County to honor Anderson, a wife and mother of two last weekend while trying to stop a vehicle in the park.

Anderson's body was transported from the Medical Examiner's Office to the funeral home by the National Park Forest Service, according to Lakewood Police Lt. Chris Lawler. The procession included about 25 officers, most of whom traveled by motorcycle.

The shooting suspect, Benjamin Colton Barnes, 24, eventually developed hypothermia and drowned after being chased inside the park by authorities this week.
