The incident occurred in Mountlake Terrace, and that city's police department is investigating.

The Edmonds School District sent the following letter today to families and guardians of students at Edmonds-Woodway High School, Chase Lake Elementary School and College Place Middle School. The district wanted to share the information with media.

We want you to have information regarding a suspicious incident that occurred this morning while a female Edmonds-Woodway student walked from her home to her bus stop this morning.

Since this incident occurred in the boundary areas of Chase Lake, College Place, and Edmonds-Woodway High, we wanted to ensure we shared it with families from all three of these schools.

The female student reported that while walking in a parking lot in the 6000 block of St. Albion Way in Mountlake Terrace, a white van with grey stripes tried to hit her.

Two heavy set men with dark hair and mustaches were in the van. The student continued toward her bus stop but the van followed her so she ran home and contacted her parent. Mountlake Terrace Police were called and are investigating.

Please use this opportunity to remind students to always be vigilant about their surroundings as they walk to or from school or their bus stop. The police officer who responded to this incident also offered the following tips:

  • Try to walk with someone and not alone
  • Only wear one ear bud or headphone so you are not blocking out surrounding sounds and noises.

Students should also do as this student did and run from the situation and immediately contact an adult.
