Recent Fire Department Calls, Including July 4

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 382 calls the week of June 30 through July 6: 288 emergency medical aid calls, 24 motor vehicle collisions, 33 fires, 15 service calls, one natural gas leak and 21 automatic fire alarms.

June 30

CAR FIRE:  At 12:17 a.m., firefighters responded to a car fire in the 4100 block of 236th Street SW in Mountlake Terrace.  The car was parked under a car port when the engine caught fire. The fire was confined to the engine compartment of the vehicle.

COLLISION:  At 3:01 p.m., two cars collided in the 16400 block of 1st Drive SE west of Mill Creek. Firefighters transported one patient to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room.

COLLISION:  At 6:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a collision in the 23400 block of Brier Road in Brier. Firefighters took one patient to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital for treatment.

July 1

FIREWORKS STAND FIRE:  At 1:51 a.m., employees at a fireworks stand in the 23200 block of Edmonds Way reported seeing two Molotov cocktails being tossed over a fence at the stand.  The employee put out the fire with an extinguisher but not before the side of the tent was scorched.  The Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating.

HOUSE FIRE:  At 5:21 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a home at the 14700 block of Manor Way north of Lynnwood. The house was engulfed in flames when they arrived. The house was being rebuilt following a November kitchen fire.  No one was currently living in the residence and there were no reported injuries.  The cause is undetermined and damage is estimated at $575,000.

COLLISION:  At 2:11 p.m., firefighters responded to an overturned car on Highway 99 near the onramp to northbound SR-525.  One person received injuries and was taken to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION:  At 3:29 p.m., two cars collided on Alderwood Mall Parkway and SR-525.  Firefighters transported an injured passenger to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital. 

July 3

HOUSE FIRE:  At 12:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in an abandoned house fire in the 17600 block of North Road east of Lynnwood.  The Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.

COLLISION:  At 11:10 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 12200 block of Highway 99 south of Everett. The pedestrian died at the scene.

July 4

FIREWORKS INCIDENTS: Firefighters responded to more than 20 incidents caused by fireworks. Most were brush fires. Three involved injuries: a 21-year-old man was transported by firefighters to Swedish/Edmonds after he lost a finger when a firework exploded in his hand in the 5300 block of 161st Pl. SW north of Lynnwood at 10 p.m. Firefighters treated a 50-year-old man at the scene after he was struck in the back by a firework in the 900 block of 203rd St. SW east of Lynnwood at 10:07 p.m. A 50-year-old man was transported to Evergreen Hospital after he sustained eye and face injuries while attempting to light a mortar at 10:33 p.m. in the 19800 block of Filbert.

EXPLOSION: At 10:42 p.m., an explosion ripped a 4-foot by 4-foot hole in the side of a condominium in the 100 block of 124th St. SW. No one was injured.

July 5

CAR FIRE:  At 2:04 a.m., firefighters extinguished a fully involved car fire in the 9500 block of 232nd Street SW in Edmonds.

FIRE:  At 2:14 a.m., a fire alarm sounded at a business in the 9400 block of 24th Place W north of Lynnwood. Firefighters could see flames through a window.  As they prepared to gain access, the building owner arrived and let them into the building.  They quickly extinguished the fire before it could do much damage. The fire ws caused by spontaneous combustion of oily rags left in a pile on the floor. The fire burned a wall, several mops and brooms and melted a wall-mounted eyewash station.  Smoke was pervasive throughout the building and windows and roll-up doors were opened to vent the area.

FIRE: At 7:21 a.m., firefighters extinguished a fire in a large portable toilet unit at McCollum Park south of Everett. Damage is estimated at $10,000. The fire was caused by fireworks.

COLLISION:  At 5:29 p.m., a car struck a pedestrian in the 1400 block of 164th Street SW east of Lynnwood.  The pedestrian received minor injuries and was transported by firefighters to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital for treatment.

COLLISION:  At 6:28 p.m., a car and a motorcycle collided near the intersection of Filbert Road and North Road east of Lynnwood.  The motorcyclist received minor injuries and was transported by firefighters to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
