Man Who Shot Border Guard From Shoreline, Worked at Seattle Tattoo Shop

Media reports identified the shooter as Andrew Michael Crews, 32, of north Seattle.

Update, 9:30 a.m. Thursday: Northbound lanes at the Peace Arch Crossing into Canada reopened Thursday morning, following the shooting of a Canadian border guard.

Authorities are trying to find out why Andrew Michael Crews fired at the guard and then killed himself. Media reports say Crews was living in north Seattle.

KING-TV is reporting that the man who shot a border guard and himself on Tuesday afternoon at the Peace Arch Crossing into Canada is Andrew Michael Crews, age 32, according to Canadian authorities.

No official cause of death was released for Crews, who shot himself shortly after wounding the female border guard.

Crews lived in Shoreline, KING reported, and worked at Under the Needle Tattoo in downtown Seattle. At one time, he lived in Bremerton.

KING also reported that CBC News identified the guard Crews shot as Lori Bowcock. They report she previously worked for the Ontario Provincial Police, but recently moved to British Columbia to work for the Canada Border Services Agency.

Bowcock is at a Vancouver hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery, said the Canada Border Services Agency.

Crews who was driving a white Ford Econoline van with Washington license plates, wounded the guard and then shot and killed himself, said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The Peace Arch Crossing was closed after the shooting at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Southbound lanes were reopened at 4.p.m Wednesday, but northbound lanes into Canada are still closed until further notice.
