Man Struck By Pickup on Highway 99 Was Using a Walker
Shoreline man, whose injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, was walking against a red light.
A pedestrian struck by a pickup on Saturday night in Edmonds has been identified as a 52-year-old man from Shoreline. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, said Sgt. Don Anderson of the Edmonds Police Department.
According to Anderson, multiple witnesses told Edmonds police they saw a man with a walker crossing Highway 99 at 220th Street Southwest from east to west against a red light.
Witnesses said that both northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 99 stopped to avoid hitting the man. When he reached the center of the highway, witnesses said two cars narrowly missed the man but a third car, driven by a 49-year-old Mountlake Terrace resident, struck the man with the right front side of his 2009 Toyota Tacoma pickup.
When Edmonds police arrived shortly after 8:15 p.m., the pedestrian was unconscious and was being attended to by a witness and two Rural Metro ambulance employees.
Southbound Highway 99 was closed to traffic at the intersection for about two hours while police investigated.
The accident remains under investigation.
