Update: Lockdown Lifted at Edmonds-Woodway, Chase Lake Community School

The schools were in lockdown as a precaution as authorities searched for a burglar in the area. The burglar was not located by a K9 unit. Parents in the district can expect some buses to be late.

Update: 2:40 p.m.: The lockdowns at Edmonds-Woodway High School and Chase Lake Community School have been lifted, but the burglar police were searching for is still at large. School officials said because the lockdown was lifted at the end of the school day, some buses will be running late throughout the district.

The following is a press release about the incident from the Edmonds Police Department:

Today at about 1:10PM, Edmonds Police Units were dispatched to a residential burglary that had just occurred in the 8100 block of Bowdoin Way in the 5 corners area of Edmonds. A resident had just returned home and noticed a door that had been locked now standing open. As Officers responded to the area a neighbor observed a subject run from the area of the house. Edmonds Officers started to set up containment and had requested assistance from the Everett Police Department for use of a tracking K9 unit. Due to the proximity to Chase Lake Elementary and Edmonds Woodway High School, the schools were locked down. This was a preventative measure to keep the K9 tracking area clear while the Everett PD K9 unit tracked the suspect(s). After approximately 30 minutes of tracking the suspect(s) the K9 unit was unable to locate them. The schools were released from their lockdown shortly afterwards. The investigation is ongoing into the burglary.

Original story:

Edmonds-Woodway High School and at Chase Lake Community School are currently locked down as Edmonds Police search the area for a burglary suspect.

There's a residential burglary in the area, just west of the high school, and a K-9 is searching for the subject as the K-9 searches to keep the tracks clear.

There's no danger to students or staff but the person fled on foot, so the police are trying to keep the area clear for the search, Sgt. Mark Marsh said. He said the lockdown should be lifted shortly.
