Hollywood Casting Director, Who Lived in Edmonds, Is Arrested

Convicted sex offender Jason James Murphy could face three years in prison.

Jason James, formerly of Edmonds, was 19 when convicted of kidnapping and molesting a 7-year-old Lynnwood boy in 1996. He served five years in prison.

On Friday, the Hollywood casting agent who had changed his name to Jason James Murphy was arrested on suspicion of failing to file a name change and failure to file a change of address, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Times reports that those two felony charges could put Murphy behind bars for a maximum three years.

James, 35, graduated from the Edmonds School District in 1995, records show. The exact school is not known, according to spokeswoman DJ Jakala, since the records system at the time pooled all graduates into the same year.

James' most recent film as casting director was Super 8 with J.J. Abrams. He also did some casting for the upcoming big-screen adaptation of The Three Stooges.

It was Abrams who, when he learned about James' past, contacted Paramount Pictures, which notified the police.
