Fire Destroys Portion of Edmonds Home, Displaces Family
No one injured as flames erupt from house on Eighth Avenue South. Damage is put at $150,000.
A fire that damaged an Edmonds house on Wednesday caused $150,00 in damage and displaced a family of four that had recently moved into the residence. The house has been left uninhabitable.
Snohomish County Fire District 1, which serves Edmonds, responded to the fire in the 1200 block of Eighth Avenue South after it was reported by the homeowners at 6:45 p.m, said Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes.
The fire was contained to the master bedroom in the rear of the house's second floor, said Hynes. A couple, their two children and an adult guest were able to escape without any injuries.

"Firefighters could see a column of black smoke as they approached the house,” said Hynes. “When they arrived, flames were coming out second-story windows on the back of the house. They were able to put out the fire very quickly."
The Red Cross responded to assist the family, which has homeowners insurance.

Hynes said that a fire investigator determined the fire started in a kitchenette in the master bedroom when the knob controlling the stovetop was bumped into the on position and ignited a box that had been placed on the burner.
