Fire Department Responses: Misplaced Smoking Materials Cause 2 Fires

Snohomish County Fire District One makes 367 calls the week of Sept. 1-7.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 367 calls the week of Sept. 1-7: 267 emergency medical aid calls, 23 motor vehicle collisions, 39 fires, 17 service calls, three natural gas leaks, two hazardous materials responses and 16 automatic fire alarms.

Sept. 1

FIRE: At 9:13 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a two-story home in the 2900 block of 216th Pl. SW in Brier. The homeowner told firefighters he had extinguished a small fire on his desk. Firefighters cleared smoke from the house. A fire investigator determined the fire was started by misplaced smoking materials.

Sept. 2

COLLISION: At 7:29 p.m., a collision was reported in the 500 block of 124th Street SW south of Everett. Firefighters transported three people with minor injuries to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

Sept. 3

SHED FIRE:  At 4:22 p.m., a fire was reported in a detached storage shed at a mobile home park in the 12600 block of East Gibson Road south of Everett. Firefighters arrived to find the shed engulfed in flames. Siding on a nearby vacant mobile home sustained heat damage.

Sept. 4

COLLISION:  At 2:15 a.m., two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle at 128th Street SW on the I-5 overpass south of Everett. Firefighters transported both pedestrians to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

DECK FIRE:  At 6:46 a.m., a deck fire was reported at a home the 300 block of Fifth Avenue South in Edmonds. The resident and two neighbors used chemical extinguishers to keep the fire in check until firefighters arrived. Firefighters extinguished the flames and set up fans to clear smoke from the house. Fire investigators believe the fire was started by a cigarette improperly stubbed out in a planter box hanging on a deck railing.

Sept. 6

COLLISION:  At 10:29 a.m., two cars collided at 128th Street SE and 3rd Avenue SE south of Everett. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Swedish/Mill Creek Emergency Room.

BRUSH FIRE:  At 11:38 a.m., firefighters responded to a brush fire on the east side of northbound I-5 north of the 128th Street exit. Firefighters were on the scene about an hour fighting the fire.

COLLISION:  At 11:51 p.m., two cars collided at 112th Street SW and Fourth Avenue West south of Everett. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

TRAILER FIRE:  At 5:41 p.m., firefighters extinguished a motor home fire at 238th Street SW and Highway 99 in Edmonds. No one was injured.

COLLISION:  At 6:54 p.m., a rear-end collision involving two cars was reported at 156th Street SW and Highway 99 north of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported two patients to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Sept. 7

COLLISION:  At 5:36 p.m., a three-car collision was reported on northbound I-5 at the 44th Avenue W exit in Lynnwood. Firefighters took four patients to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
